I recently did the make up for the new video for 'Nothings Real but Love'.
The video was shot in black and white which meant it was all about Rebecca looking her gorgeous self.
It was shot around the streets of London and so it couldn't be a completely no make up look so I wanted to just concentrate on a strong brow, lots of lashes and a glossy lip. Basically just highlighting all the best features that really frame the face.
Keep it simple is the trick!
Prep the skin so it has a luminous finish without being shiny. I really like MAC skin Illuminator under any foundation, it gives a subtle lift to any complexion, I use this daily on myself.
Use a dark powder or blush to contour the skin in all the right places first.
I really have a soft spot for the Illemasqua matte blush for contouring at the moment and I use it all the time. Use a fluffy brush to get a light diffused colour or use an angled blusher brush for more of a structured contour for sharper cheekbones.
Define brows well with either a pencil or a shadow and make sure you comb through well. I always use an angled brush to apply any colour on the brow as you want it to be precise and lift the eye. I have a fab one in my new brush sets which I will tell you about soon!
I recently discovered a great new pencil from Une. They are all natural products and have a lovely texture to them. Sweep the pencil on in small strokes as if you are drawing on individual hairs and comb through to soften and smudge.
The lashes are so important in any look that you get a pair that suits you. They come in so many different shapes and sizes that it's hard to choose. I sometimes like to use 2 pairs stuck together if I can't find the exact shape or thickness I need. You just put a line of glue at the base of one of the lashes on the side that will be sandwiched in the middle and lay the second pair on top. Hold for a few seconds and lay flat on a table until they dry, it only takes a minute or so. You then apply as normal. I always apply my lashes first and mascara after otherwise I find there is a definate barrier and difference in texture between the two. If the model has fair lashes I would paint them a little first to darken the lash using a fan brush dipped in mascara.
I always carry a full range of Salon System lashes as they are the easiest to stick on and sit really nicely into the lashline. I am loving the new boholash they do.....
I also have a sneaky little stash of the MAC lashes that I love too......
They have recently discontinued my favourite pair so I've found a new favourite which are the type of lashes that look good on everyone and can be natural or plumped up for a more dramatic feel! Make sure you look after them and you can get quite a few wears out of them.
To finish any lashes I always love a really good coat of mascara. I'm very particular about my mascaras and I have always found that the ones from the high st are the best! My current favourite is Bourjois Volume Glamour Max. It only takes one coat to get the desired fullness and there are never any black fallout bits throughout the day, they stay immaculate which in turn is less work for me, hoorah! Always apply your mascara with the wand horizontally starting at the roots with a small wiggle and pulling the wand up and out of the lashes. Then go back in with the tip (wipe away any excess) and constantly comb until every lash is perfect. This could take a couple of minutes until the mascara dries but keep at it and the will separate into the perfect fan shape.
There are an abundance of glosses on the market but I recently found a keeper. The sheer colour is stunning and it's got a honey kind of texture to it so it stays put but feels like balm so it's not annoyingly sticky..... if that makes sense?! It is by Daniel Sandler and is called supergloss... you're going to love it. You can buy these Daniel Sandler products online and they make up lots of my staple components of my kit.
So there you go.... you can create a gorgeous, striking make up without looking over made up with just a few key products!
