Guest post- Week 5 at CLMA!

Rebecca Spendlove

It’s shoot day at CLMA, my name is Rebecca Spendlove and the brief for this shoot was colour. At the moment there are a lot of bright colours showing through in the fashion industry from neon lips as soon at S/S 13 Missoni show in Milan and a splash of colour over the eye as seen as S/S 13 Dior at Paris Fashion Week.

My interpretation of colour for this shoot was Gold. I wanted to create a look that was strong but beautiful with flawless golden sunkissed skin, golden shimmering eyes finished off with gold leaf down the face seeping on to the neck and shoulder to achieve a golden goddess look. My inspiration for this look came from a look that Alex Box created for Myer S/S 2010 fashion.

TOP TIP for my look would be to apply MAC Lustre drops to the area that I wanted to stick my gold leaf as this helped the gold leaf stay in place. Also we applied some gold leaf to the hair, we did this by applying MAC lip glass to the hair before the gold leaf which then acted as our glue. Here are some images of my finished look and my inspiration if you would to follow me on twitter on @rebecaspendlove

Guest Post- Week 4 at CLMA!

Hi everyone,
My name is Laurie and I am a student here at the Cassie Lomas Make Up Academy and I’m loving every minute of it. So we have been asked to blog as part of the course to help us get into it as blogging as it is such a big part of the industry today; I’ve often visited Cassie’s blog myself as you are now, trying to find tips and must buys. I am new to this so this is officially my first blog.

First off I want to let you all know that this for the girls and I are in week four and this is a big and exciting week for us all. This week we have our first shoot, excitement, anticipation and nerves are all running high. Our shoot brief is all about colour and has a lot of room to play with as you can be as outrageous as you want or beautifully simple. So I have spent all week doing my mood board and face charts at home in preparation for the big day! I’m so excited to see the end result of all our finished looks and pictures. I would also like to thank Cassie herself, Emily and Kirstie for their hard work in preparing, overseeing and photographing for this big day.

Other than the shoot a lot of other things have been going on this week all very exciting! We have met Richard another fabulous tutor and highly recognised makeup artist who has mainly been helping us perfect our looks this week and also Jenny who works onset at Emmerdale. Jenny has been showing us how to do special effects such as cuts and bruising this was so exciting we all really enjoyed the master class in cuts and bruising. I think we all gave our loved ones a fright with some of the pictures we sent to them, a little bit cruel as they looked so realistic, however highly amusing at the same time.

This week we also had our day out to mac and Illamasqua which both put on inspirational demos leaving us all very impressed. The mac demo was a perfect example for using bright colours which tied in very well with our brief for our shoot. Illamaqua’s demo showed techniques some of us hadn’t seen before showing us how to put colours together you wouldn’t necessarily think worked (truly inspirational). We all spent far too much at both stores stocking up on goodies.

One of my best buys was strobe cream from mac I must say it is a great primer. You only need a small amount and when applied before the foundation it gives a great finish that shines through your foundation and really moistures the skin at the same time it’s fabulous especially for the very dewy look or no makeup makeup trend that we are seeing a lot of at the moment,

Below pictures of strobe cream, Illamasqua demo and mac demo.

Last but not least I would like to finish this by saying CLMA is truly one of the best decisions I have made to date. I properly wont blog again on Cassie’s page so would like to take the opportunity to say how much I am loving my time here at the academy. It’s been amazing and such an inspiration being able to learn from such talented makeup artists and other big names in this industry. CLMA has really set the standards for me and has left a lasting impression on myself and I now know exactly what sort of makeup artist I want to be. The academy really is raising the bar and expectations of what you should be going into this industry. Two weeks left now to go, it really is flying by!

Hope this has been a helpful insight to the academy and some of this week’s antics. You can follow me on twitter @dixonlaurie and I will be creating my website shortly (I will post the link on my twitter) if any of you would be interested in seeing some of photos for my portfolio I have created whilst at the academy and after leaving.

Guest Blog- Week 3 at CLMA!

Katie and Sinead, week 3 at Cassie Lomas Make Up Academy

We have written a guest post for Cassie's blog as part of our course at CLMA.
As a beginner all the products you learn about when training can be so overwhelming. We have chosen a few things to tell you about………..

We have a few favourite products that we have been using since we started at the academy. Our first one is the Daniel sandler water colour blusher. We had never heard of them before but now we have fallen in love with them. We like how they are so easy to use, you only need a small amount on your hand and place where you want the colour to go using your fingertips and blend out with your fingers.

Another product we have enjoyed working with is the Bourjois intuitive liner. A lot of the girls on the course have always struggled with liquid liner so this is great for us to use as it has 3 small points on the end which you can place dots in a line of where you want and join together to form the line.

MAC Face and body foundation is another great product we have been using. Neither of us were much of a fan of this product at first but as soon as we were shown how to apply it correctly by buffing it in with a foundation brush we loved it.

The last of our favourite products we wanted to tell you about is the Bourjois Brush concealer pen. We like to use this mixed into a thicker concealer on the places I want to highlight slightly. It has light reflective properties so lifts any dark circles and by mixing it with a heavier concealer you can create the exact right consistency for your complexion.  Practicing daily is what we love doing but it makes it easier working with products that get the result you want. Thank you for reading our blog, we hope our thoughts have come in handy.
