Guest Post- Week 4 at CLMA!

Hi everyone,
My name is Laurie and I am a student here at the Cassie Lomas Make Up Academy and I’m loving every minute of it. So we have been asked to blog as part of the course to help us get into it as blogging as it is such a big part of the industry today; I’ve often visited Cassie’s blog myself as you are now, trying to find tips and must buys. I am new to this so this is officially my first blog.

First off I want to let you all know that this for the girls and I are in week four and this is a big and exciting week for us all. This week we have our first shoot, excitement, anticipation and nerves are all running high. Our shoot brief is all about colour and has a lot of room to play with as you can be as outrageous as you want or beautifully simple. So I have spent all week doing my mood board and face charts at home in preparation for the big day! I’m so excited to see the end result of all our finished looks and pictures. I would also like to thank Cassie herself, Emily and Kirstie for their hard work in preparing, overseeing and photographing for this big day.

Other than the shoot a lot of other things have been going on this week all very exciting! We have met Richard another fabulous tutor and highly recognised makeup artist who has mainly been helping us perfect our looks this week and also Jenny who works onset at Emmerdale. Jenny has been showing us how to do special effects such as cuts and bruising this was so exciting we all really enjoyed the master class in cuts and bruising. I think we all gave our loved ones a fright with some of the pictures we sent to them, a little bit cruel as they looked so realistic, however highly amusing at the same time.

This week we also had our day out to mac and Illamasqua which both put on inspirational demos leaving us all very impressed. The mac demo was a perfect example for using bright colours which tied in very well with our brief for our shoot. Illamaqua’s demo showed techniques some of us hadn’t seen before showing us how to put colours together you wouldn’t necessarily think worked (truly inspirational). We all spent far too much at both stores stocking up on goodies.

One of my best buys was strobe cream from mac I must say it is a great primer. You only need a small amount and when applied before the foundation it gives a great finish that shines through your foundation and really moistures the skin at the same time it’s fabulous especially for the very dewy look or no makeup makeup trend that we are seeing a lot of at the moment,

Below pictures of strobe cream, Illamasqua demo and mac demo.

Last but not least I would like to finish this by saying CLMA is truly one of the best decisions I have made to date. I properly wont blog again on Cassie’s page so would like to take the opportunity to say how much I am loving my time here at the academy. It’s been amazing and such an inspiration being able to learn from such talented makeup artists and other big names in this industry. CLMA has really set the standards for me and has left a lasting impression on myself and I now know exactly what sort of makeup artist I want to be. The academy really is raising the bar and expectations of what you should be going into this industry. Two weeks left now to go, it really is flying by!

Hope this has been a helpful insight to the academy and some of this week’s antics. You can follow me on twitter @dixonlaurie and I will be creating my website shortly (I will post the link on my twitter) if any of you would be interested in seeing some of photos for my portfolio I have created whilst at the academy and after leaving.
